Big Band Concert 26th May - All stops were pulled out for this wonderful occasion at the Masonic Halls in Sutton, thanks to Dave Marrion and his Band.  The swinging feet -tapping music was the best ever heard in aid of the local NSPCC in the presence of the Mayor of Sutton .   Christine, their vocalist was a breath of fresh air as she sang old and new favourites.  Dave and the band gave of their great expertise for no charge and Carole and Ivan, who worked so hard ensuring everything was set out so beautifully -  also only charged  50% of their fee - all this was so appreciated by us.  The evening raised over £750 which was a record.  Dave was delighted, as were we all, with the success of the evening and said 'We do love to raise desperately needed funds for the NSPCC; the children in their care are let down by some of the local authorities.'.......Dave has kindly promised to play next year for the Sutton NSPCC

MAD HATTER'S TEA PARTY 2009- The team excelled themselves with catering and hosting the first tea party of its kind for Sutton NSPCC.   With sandwiches, cakes, jellies and ice-cream, and first-class entertainment,  plus the  hat competition (which was was so close that we had to choose at least three winners!),  everyone called for a repeat next year.  We raised over £750 which was excellent - the raffle, organised by Doris and Sheila, was so popular the result was £139.

All our thanks, also, to Lilian for giving us the blue print of her tea party last year, and for guiding us in the right direction!!  Both these events prove that we CAN make fund-raising fun - for the SAKE OF THE CHILDREN.

BIG BAND CONCERT 2009 - Dave Marrion and his Big Band Gig at the Sutton Masonic Hall played to nearly 90 guests in aid of the NSPCC in the presence of the Mayor of Sutton, Councillor Margaret Court.    The audience were swinging and singing to the blues numbers and were delighted to hear the fabulous music of Glenn Miller, Ted Heath etc.  We were honoured that several band members had been playing with Ted Heath in the past and  one of the ladies had been with Ivy Benson!  We raised over £750 which was a marvellous profit with this our first Big Band Concert.    Another equally swinging evening is planned for next year!

Gardeners Question Time 2009 Our twelfth annual Gardeners Question Time was held on 12th March at our usual venue - St Dunstans, Cheam Village We were privileged to have our usual colourful team; Jim Buttress was in the chair, with Mark, and Alan and Tom (from Lullingstone Castle fame).

There were many searching questions from the audience which were answered readily and positively with lots of good humour thrown in!   It was a marvellous, friendly  evening and highly successful both socially and financially.

We raised over £580 which is higher than last year.  Doris and Sheila co-ordinated the highly successful raffle and raised £127., Maddie and Ray organised the very colourful plant stalls and raised £43  and Jean and her helpers provided delicious refreshments both to the team and the supporters.  Janet thanked the  team, the audience for the support, and hoped everyone would come along to the next Question Time on 11th March 2010!
